Le ministère égyptien du Pétrole a lancé un appel d’offres international pour l’exploration de 23 blocs pétroliers. L’appel d’offres est ouvert jusqu’au 25 février prochain et couvre différentes régions. Il s’agit de 10 blocs dans le désert occidental, deux dans le désert oriental, sept dans le golfe de Suez et quatre dans la mer Rouge.
L’Égypte veut s’imposer comme une plaque tournante régionale de l’énergie grâce à de telles initiatives. Ces dernières années, le pays s’est en effet illustré comme le plus prolifique en termes de lancement de campagnes d’exploration de pétrole et de gaz naturel en Afrique. Cela a abouti à une croissance solide de la production qui en 2018 a permis au pays des pharaons de devenir autosuffisant en gaz.
Actuellement, des synergies sont mises en place pour que le pays devienne un hub de la liquéfaction et la distribution de gaz vers le reste du Moyen-Orient.
